Rutherfurd Hall presents the 9th Annual Fall Jazz series, featuring the last two ensembles, Hendrik Meurkens Quartet, Sunday October 13 and “Cubano Be, Cubano Bop”: A Musical Journey, December 1. This series continuing to entertain audiences with exceptional quality musicians, featuring the songs of George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin and Johnny Mercer to name a few.
The second installment of jazz features the world-renowned Hendrik Meurkens Quartet, bringing soulful sounds through a masterful harmonica and vibraphone performance and accompanied by an outstanding ensemble.
Blending Brazilian rhythms with classic jazz, Meurkens performances are a global journey of sound with a career spanning continents and decades. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in jazz, leaving audiences spellbound with his virtuosic talent and emotional depth.
The quartet features a lineup of exceptional musicians who create a harmonious synergy that brings Meurkens’ compositions to life, offering a rich and dynamic musical experience.
The series finale highlights “Cubano Be, Cubano Bop”: A Musical Journey, paying homage to the groundbreaking compositions of jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Chico O’Farrill. Their music brings to life an exhilarating blend of Latin and Brazilian beats and big band jazz, music that revolutionized the 1940s and continues to inspire artists today.
The ensemble will transport you to the golden era of jazz with a contemporary twist, delivering a show that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Rob Stoneback and his 7-piece combo, Trombosis, opened the concert series Sunday September 15.

There will be a meet and greet opportunity after each performance and light refreshments will be available for purchase.
All concerts will benefit the Rutherfurd Hall Foundation, dedicated to preserving the rich history of Rutherfurd Hall and the Hackettstown Rotary Club, which helps Warren County families in need.
