Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Warren County Announces New Workshops

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Warren County announces the 2019 Winter/Spring Workshops schedule, presenting a series of informative programs open to the public.

Worm Composting
Two dates and locations, same workshop! Learn how to reduce your kitchen waste and turn it into a nutrient-rich soil amendment, then put together your own vermi-compost kit to take home. Materials fee is $40, must pre-register by 1/15, space is limited.    

First date: January 30, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at the RCE office, Wayne Dumont, Jr. Administration Building, Belvidere.
Second date: February 1, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. at the Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch of the Warren County Library, Blairstown.

Backyard Chickens
Two dates, same workshop! Chickens can be very simple to care for and there are numerous benefits to raising them. Hank Bignell, Jr., Agricultural Coordinator of Warren County, will be presenting on how to begin and care for your own flock of chickens. $8 in advance (by 3/1, 3/27), $12 at the door.

First date: March 8, 2019 12:00-1:15 p.m., RCE office, Wayne Dumont, Jr. Administration Building, Belvidere. Feel free to bring a bag lunch, drinks will be provided.
Second date: April 3, 2019, 7:00 p.m., same location (RCE office).

Lawn Care IPM
Joel Flagler, Bergen County agent, will be presenting on how to achieve a beautiful, healthy and sustainable lawn while saving time and money on lawn care products, using the scientifically proven approach of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Feel free to bring a bag lunch; drinks will be provided.

April 30, 2019, 12:00-1:15 p.m., RCE office, Wayne Dumont Building, Belvidere, $8 in advance (by 4/16), $12 at the door.

Vegetable Gardening Basics
Have you considered starting your own vegetable garden this year? Worried about space, potential problems or time? Have no fear, there are infinite ways to get started and here is the place to have your questions answered by horticulturist Lynn Waclawski.

May 7, 2019, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Warren County Library Headquarters, Belvidere. This is a free workshop, but please pre-register, space is limited.

Fruit Trees and Their Care
Megan Muehlbauer, Hunterdon County agent, will share all there is to know about growing fruit trees, trouble shooting, and preventing problems. Feel free to bring a bag lunch; beverages will be provided.
