Shippen Manor Reopens to the Public

After a long two-year hiatus, Shippen Manor has reopened to the public with hours on the first and second Sunday of each month. The June 12, 2022 program  is Civil War Day at Shippen Manor.

During museum hours, tours of the main floor will be offered by knowledgeable docents. Tours will be kept to smaller groups for a better visitor experience.

The museum, which originally was home to the families that ran Oxford Furnace, has new information and artifacts to share with visitors this season. There are also new entrances to the museum, both are identified with signs that are visible from the boardwalk on the upper level of the building. The museum entrance is the first porch from the Belvidere Avenue parking area and the ADA entrance is the second. If you need assistance entering the museum, please speak with the museum greeter.

The first military encampment of the 2022 season is scheduled for Sunday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the 27th NJ Regiment will be visiting that day. Visitors can share in the experience of the men (and women) of this unit during the Civil War. Soldiers and officers will have tents and offices set up and the regiment’s surgeon will be on site. Firing demonstrations will be announced and younger visitors are encouraged to participate in the “wooden rifle picket”. During the firing demonstrations, museum tours will be paused temporarily (20-30 minutes). A children’s activity (“Ciphers and the Civil War”) will be provided near the office porch (upper driveway) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the museum director.

The rear parking and driveways are closed for pedestrian traffic. There also is limited accessible parking near the boardwalk in our Belvidere Avenue parking area. Please see programming information at Warren200.com for more information regarding off-site parking. Admission is free.
