Warren History Museums Are Open

For the month of August, Warren County's two museums located at historic Morris Canal will be open a week later than usual, on the third Sunday. Stop by and learn why you keep seeing the brown "Morris Canal Crossed Here" signs around the county, as volunteers will be there to welcome you and answer any questions. The Museum at Bread Lock Park has obtained a new exhibit - "The Magic Age of Steam". Or, journey underground on a guided tour through the 165-foot tailrace tunnel, and see other canal artifacts at the Jim and Mary Lee Museum.

Shippen Talks featuring Richard Dalrymple

Local author Richard Dalrymple will be discussing "Prominent People of Montana Mountain" (Harmony Township). He has written two books, "The Bootleggers of Montana Mountain" (2017) and "Harmony Township, NJ: Its Historic Communities and Some of its Oldest Families."

Shippen Talks featuring Ina Walls

Shippen Manor Talks presents "Black History of Warren County, Leaving a Legacy" with Ina Walls. Her interest in Black History began in her early teens and continues to this day. Her presentation will relate to some of the people and families that contributed to the growth of the Warren County area. Meanwhile, the Shippen Manor Museum is open 1-4 p.m. for tours, with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Release stress, get exercise and view the swans, turtles and other birds and wildlife that call Allamuchy Pond their home. Canoes and single and tandem kayaks will be available. An ACA-certified canoe and kayak instructor and lifeguard will be at the dock to provide assistance. All abilities are welcome.

Docents will be available to give tours of the Manor and the history of the people and the local industry of Oxford. Sept. 3 starts a new series, "On the Daily", in which docents present on a variety of topics in the workers' kitchen. "Laundry Day" is a presentation on how women did the laundry in the 18th century. Sept. 10 focuses on "Shippen & The Revolution" with an encampment by the 2nd NJ, with regimental firing demonstration, a picket march for the kids, a medical table and discussion about how the troops dealt with injury and illness, children's activities and more.

Tri- Mountain Lake Sprint Triathlon benefiting The Arc of Warren

This one-of-a-kind triathlon at Mountain Lake in Liberty Township includes a ¼ mile swim, a 15 mile bike ride and a three mile run, and benefits The Arc of Warren County. This is a USAT sanctioned triathlon and teams or individuals are welcome to participate. This event is presented by DASH Multisport, LLC and The Arc of Warren County. Registration to participate closed July 12, but come out to cheer them on!
