
Reverend Wayne Sherrer will speak about African Americans in Warren County, both as Freedmen and those enslaved up until December 1865, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment), dating back at least to 1777.
Rev. Sherrer is a Historian and the Episcopalian Priest in charge of St. James Parish in Hackettstown as well as the author of "Phorgotten No More," which is the most complete record of the existence of Black people in Phillipsburg and the surrounding towns between 1777 to the present day, as well as their struggles, including the burgeoning Klan in the 1920's.
Free refreshments will be available and the program is free for Historical Society members. A $5 donation for non-members is requested to help fund the speakers, the cost of whom have been increasing.
Free and open to the public.
