A Rutgers Environmental Steward is a volunteer trained in the important environmental issues affecting New Jersey and work to help solve local environmental problems. No previous experience needed.
Weekly classes taught by leading researchers from Rutgers, government, and the nonprofit sector. There are approximately 11 online and 5 in-person sessions and fieldtrips to environmentally significant sites are included. Topics include climate change, solid waste, recycling, soil health, alternative energy, water quality, habitat conservation, pollinator protection, and environmental policy.
Stewards are encouraged to work on a 60-hour volunteer project in their own community and recieve a certificate and recognition. After Dec. 31, the cost is $350. Registration opens in October.
These classes will run January - May 2025, Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 8p.m.
