Come to The RoseMary Inn for a history filled presentation. All are welcome and wine and cheese will be served.
The story of the S/S William F. Humphrey is a story of heroism, tragedy, suffering and brutality at the hands of both the Germans and Japanese. Seventeen-year-old Seaman 2nd Class George William Metzler served as a member of the U.S. Navy Armed Guard for 210 days. During his short naval career he cruised the oceans for the first time, celebrated a birthday away from home for the first time and visited Africa and Iran. He also experienced the horrors of war, first time wounded, first time captured, first Metzler buried at sea. This is his story.
Author Tom Metzler has spent years as an advocate on Prisoner of War issues and was shocked to learn that his Uncle was classified as a POW on his death certificate. To that end he has committed to see that his uncle is posthumously awarded the POW medal.
