The Community Center @ Belvidere launches a new monthly music series; the inaugural performance is acclaimed guitarist Walt Bibinger. Bring a chair or blanket, refreshments, and good vibes!
Funding for the Sunset Serenades is made possible, in part, by the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
The International Association of Jazz Record Collectors describes jazz guitarist Walt Bibinger’s playing as “…rooted in the traditions of Tal Farlow, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Johnny Smith, and Joe Pass, but with a sound and style all his own…”
Walt began playing the guitar at age 4, performing professionally at age 12 and commenced his teaching career at age 16. Walt’s primary musical influence and mentor was the late Grammy Award-winning guitarist Harry Leahey. Walt studied intensely with Leahey from 1975 until the guitarist’s passing in 1990, and attended The Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Walt has performed up and down the East Coast in clubs, concerts, clinics, and festivals. These include: The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC); The Bergen Performing Arts Center; the Poconos region’s legendary jazz club Deer Head Inn; The Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts (COTA) Festival; Bethlehem, PA’s Musikfest; the Black Potatoe Music Festival in Clinton, NJ; Peters Valley Arts Festival, Sussex County, NJ; Scranton Jazz Festival, Scranton, PA; and at New York City’s famed club The Iridium as part of the Monday Night Les Paul Tribute series.
Walt is an endorser of American Archtop Guitars, hand-crafted by luthier Dale Unger, and has been a featured performer at the New York and Philadelphia “Classic American Guitar Shows” and the “Woodstock Luthiers Showcase”. He is also a Martin Guitar artist, involved in research and development, and performing clinics/master classes for the renowned guitar manufacturer from Nazareth, PA.
In addition to performing solo, duo, and leading his own trio, Walt is in demand as a sideman and has appeared live with Bucky Pizzarelli, Howard Alden, Bob Dorough, Jimmy McGriff, and Phil Woods, among many others. Walt also is busy with freelance studio/session work, having performed on numerous CDs by artists of all musical genres.
