Centenary Stage Company kicks off the 2024 Fringe Festival lineup with Dr. Glas, Nov. 7 - 10, followed by My Buddy, Nov. 14 - 17 and Courage, Nov. 21 - 24. All Thursday evening performances feature “Buy One Get One” tickets starting at 5:30 pm in person.
Dr. Glas by Jeffrey Hatcher
Dr. Glas is the story of an aloof Swedish physician looking to win the heart of another man’s wife. Written by Hjalmar Söderberg, comes a psychological thriller with dashes of philosophical musings woven with intricate and intimate journal entries that will tease the imagination.
Daniel Gerroll as Dr. Glas brings to life the first serious American version with various stage adaptations appearing all over Northern Europe. Published in 1905 in Swedish, and made available in English in 1936.
Adapted for a black and white film by Rune Carlsten in 1942 and directed by Mai Zetterling as a Danish version in color in 1968. It was workshopped in 2020 in the inaugural Solo Flights one-person play festival, part of North Coast Repertory Theatre's COVID-era video series in 2021 and played for two weeks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022.
It was finally expanded from a 60-minute single act to a full length play in September 2023 and presented at the inaugural Ukraine Fringe Festival in Kyiv.
Gerroll has appeared in Chariots of Fire, Sir Henry at Rawlinson End, 84 Charing Cross Road, Drop Dead Fred and Big Business and was cast as Bronson Alcott in documentary profile "Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind 'Little Women'" that aired on the PBS series America Masters.
My Buddy by Sandy Hackett
Legendary comedian Buddy Hackett is brought to life in My Buddy, a live musical, theatrical production, told by his son, Sandy Hackett. My Buddy takes the audience on a journey that explores the deep bond between a father and son, sharing personal anecdotes. Sandy brilliantly captures the nuance of his father's comedic style as he reminisces about a lifetime together, including 10 years they spent touring on the road, sharing stories and memories from the beginning days of Buddy's career, to his skyrocketing success as a movie star and night club entertainer, to being the most sought after comedian of his day.
Courage by John Pielmeier
In his one-person adaptation of the life of J.M. Barrie, John Pielmeirer brings to life Peter Pan's version of this story and Hook hates with a passion. Pielmeier began his career with the internationally - acclaimed play and movie Agnes of God and since had three more plays mounted on Broadway and over 25 film, television movies and miniseries produced, including acclaimed adaptations of The Pillars of the Earth, Gifted Hands, and The Memory Keeper's Daughter.
