30th Annual Midsummer Herb Festival at Well-Sweep Herb Farm

Saturday, July 27, 2019 -
11:00am to 2:00pm

Well-Sweep’s 30th annual Midsummer herb festival celebrates – Agastache, the 2019 International Herb Association’s Herb of the Year. In honor of our 50th Anniversary we will be having a guest speaker with extensive herbal knowledge – Delaware State University Professor Emeritus Dr. Arthur O. Tucker. Art will be speaking on “Agastache and Some Herbal Hacks” as well as discussing his new book, co-authored by Susan Belsinger – “Grow Your Own Herbs: The 40 Best Culinary Varieties for Home Gardens.”

Art is an internationally renowned botanist, specializing in the identification and chemistry of plants of flavor, fragrance and medicine. He is a friend of Cyrus and Louise Hyde and co-author of one of our go to reference books – “The Big Book of Herbs.” He also has a very extensive list of scientific publications from journal articles to books and book chapters. Over the years, Art has shared unusual specimens with us to add to our collection and has used chromatography testing to identify each rosemary and lavender cultivar in our collection as unique. These tests led to the verification of ‘Logee Blue’ Rosemary as a unique cultivar as well as the naming of several varieties by Cyrus – such as ‘Alida Hyde’ and ‘Holly Hyde’ Prostrate Rosemary. ‘Tucker’s Early Purple’ lavender, a cross between ‘Mitcham Grey’ and ‘Two Seasons’, was introduced by Tom DeBaggio and named for Art Tucker.

After the lecture, enjoy a tasty luncheon prepared with two tasty Agastache’s – Anise Hyssop and Korean Mint as well as other complimentary herbs. After lunch, celebrate the beauty of this culinary flower as you create a floral arrangement featuring the many varieties of Agastache and other flowers from our gardens. Finish the day with a tour through our formal herb garden. Reservations are required; call 908-852-5390. Cost is $39.
