Givens-Belet Memorial Day Parade

Sunday, May 28, 2017 -
12:00pm to 3:00pm

Blairstown marks Memorial Day with a service at Cedar Ridge Cemetery beginning at noon, followed by a parade concluding at Footbridge Park with free refreshments for all.

The event is hosted by Blairstown Rotary Club.

Please join us in the cemetery (across from Tractor Supply on Rt. 94) to honor those who gave their lives for our nation. The parade begins immediately after the ceremony (approximately 1pm).

According to Parade Chairman John Kruk, the Blairstown Memorial Day parade began at the end of World War II. There were many residents of Blairstown who served in Europe and Japan, their names are on the honor roll at the American Legion Post 258 Givens-Belet hall. The post hasn't missed a parade since. The main point is to honor those who died in defense of our nation, but it is so much more than that. It shows the children and youth that they are a part of a larger community that cares. It gives the civic organizations a way to shine in front of those that they assist, it gives the veterans a day to mourn those individuals they know that never came back, and it is also a celebration. Many think Memorial Day should be somber, but that is only a portion of it. The celebration is what those who perished would have wanted, so we do that in the park after the parade.

We hope to see you all there!

NOTE:  There is still time to register your civic organization, antique car, tractor or military vehicle to enter the parade. Please contact John Kruk, Parade Chairman, at (908) 343-5328 or via email to JohnKruk@remax.net .
