Industrial Archaeology Fall Car Trek

Sunday, October 23, 2022 -
10:00am to 1:00pm

The New Jersey Highlands Coalition (NJHC) cordially invites community members to explore our region’s most scenic byways during its Fall Car Trek. The theme of this trek is Industrial Archaeology, and the route will highlight the rich industrial history of Warren and Hunterdon Counties. The route includes sites in Hackettstown (Mars Wrigley, Centenary University and the former Hackettstown Fish Hatchery), Mansfield (Rockport Train Wreck Memorial) and Port Murray (Morris Canal). After crossing into Hunterdon, the route later reenters Warren County to drive through Warren Glen (Musconetcong Gorge area) and Pohatcong (site of former Finesville Dam).

NJHC staff and volunteers have worked very hard to produce an interesting and enlightening tour highlighting our local history. All proceeds benefit the New Jersey Highlands Coalition, a non-profit that works to protect water resources of the NJ Highlands which spans portions of seven counties of northwestern New Jersey, including two-thirds of Warren.

Participants will meet at Subaru World of Hackettstown at 10am to receive directions and a tour packet before setting out in their personal vehicles to drive the 60-mile route. The trek will conclude at approximately 1pm in Clinton with an option to join fellow trekkers for lunch at the Clinton Station Diner (which, by the way, has an amazing salad bar).
