Civil War Day with the 8th NJ Volunteer Infantry at Shippen Manor

Sunday, October 6, 2019 -
11:00am to 4:00pm

On Sunday, October 6, the 8th NJ Volunteer Infantry will be camped at Shippen Manor in Oxford, New Jersey, from 11am to 4pm. Come out and learn a little bit about the life of the typical Union volunteer infantry soldier who served in the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. You’ll get to see the uniforms and equipment worn by the soldiers as well as observe drill and firing demonstrations.

The Manor will be open for tours of the Colonial and Victorian rooms, given by our knowledgeable docents. Tours of the interior of Shippen Manor will be paused during the demonstrations given by the 8th NJ, but will resume once it is complete. The last tour will be given at 3:30pm for the main floor of the Manor.

Drilling and firing demonstration times will be at 12:30pm and 2:30pm on the front lawn of the Manor. No tours of the Manor will be given during the firing demonstrations, but will resume once they have concluded.

On-street parking is available on Washington Avenue. Please do not block the entrance to the Manor's upper driveway. Accessibility parking in the area between Belvidere Ave and the boardwalk on the upper level of the Manor property.
