Memorial Day Community Picnic at Ramsaysburg

Monday, May 28, 2018 - 12:00pm

Come to the Ramsaysburg Homestead historic park for a picnic! The event will take place rain or shine both inside the historic barns and on the spacious park-like grounds. This is a free event for all to attend.

Scheduled day of events:

12pm Picnic: Bring a covered dish to share - The community is asked to bring their own beverage, lawn chair/blanket and a covered dish that will be shared with all who attend. Grills will be fired up and available for public use; plates and cutlery will be provided.

1pm Flag Raising Ceremony: The INAGURAL FLAG RAISING at the newly installed flagpole will take place at 1pm. Kameron Steckel, a member of Belvidere Boy Scout Troop #141, undertook the Eagle Scout project in 2017. The flagpole, generously donated by the First Hope Bank in Blairstown, is now a permanent fixture at the site. Scout Troop #141 will perform the Flag Raising Ceremony with the Belvidere High School Band performing. Dr. Dennis Melillo will offer historic tributes to Memorial Day.

Throughout the day, take a self-guided hike through the Interpretive Woodland Trail. This half-mile walk through a mature forest is adjacent to the Homestead building and highlights the geology and hydrology indigenous to the Delaware River Valley. This trail was dedicated in October 2017 through the accomplishment of Boy Scout Alex Hicks of Knowlton Boy Scout Troop #153 in achieving his merit rank as an Eagle Scout.

Canoes and kayaks are welcome – Canoe and Kayak fans are invited to arrive by water on the river at the canoe and kayak landing at the base of the river trail. Take a self-guided kayak and canoe journey by floating down the Delaware River from the Columbia, NJ boat launch to the landing at the Ramsaysburg site. The distance between the two points is approximately 3 miles down-river. River travelers should look for the large brown sign stating “Ramsaysburg – Landing” at marker 204.0 along the left bank (New Jersey is on the eastside).
