The guest speaker on December 19 will be Clif Ashcraft, whose presentation will focus on Speckle Interferometry, a technique for measuring the separation and position angles of very close double stars even under poor seeing conditions. In the past it had been solely the province of professional astronomers having access to expensive cameras costing as much as $50,000 and telescopes in the 2-meter class. This talk shows how you can do it in your backyard with CMOS video cameras costing $350 or less and telescopes already available to amateur astronomers.
